Pamela Wessel has created a stunning tribute to female firefighters with American Idols gorgeous black and white photographs. She spent 2 years capturing the spirit of 29 of the 54 women firefighters of the San Antonio Fire Department. Many of the images were made in her studio and at the fire stations using "northern lighting" technique. This sensual lighting offsets the rugged gear that many of the women wear, allowing their feminine strength to shine through loud and clear.
Wessel, an award winning portrait photographer of Northernlight Fine Art Imaging in Bulverde Texas, says it well: "These women are extraordinary! These women are my idols! I hope that the images not only convey this, but also their strength of character, their commitment, and their sensuality." We believe she has succeeded.
Eighty of the thousands of images made are included in a nicely printed 2005-June 2006 calendar. The proceeds from sales go directly to the Texas Burn Survivor Society and the International Association of Firefighters National Burn Camp in Washington D.C. These will be available at River City Silver
The exhibit will be on view at River City Silver, 5103 McCullough in San Antonio for the months of May and June 2005. It will be open to the public Mondays thru Fridays 8:30 am until 6 pm. A free artist's reception will be held on Friday, May 13th 2005 from 6 to 8 PM.
