ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Starting very early in my life, I have enjoyed looking at the world from alternate perspectives. Early influences like Dr. Seuss, MAD magazine and Monty Python made me aware that reality as it is perceived by the majority is largely a construct that many people take way too seriously. However, the artist in my view has the unique gift of being able to step back from the world view that mass society has created and invent his/her own view of how things should be. To this end, I found many mentors, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, M.C. Escher and others.

I feel that the computer has bridged the gap between photography and painting. I am fascinated with creating the illogical from photographic images because it catches the viewer in a conundrum as to where reality starts and stops. The conflict comes from wide acceptance of the photograph as a depiction of real events, however the viewer can plainly see that what they behold cannot exist, and yet there it is.
